　　Hepburn, the Wife

　　Although too young to remember my parents together, I was told of romantic evenings, of candle light and soft music.

　　Anyway, no one is to blame. There is only sadness when two souls cannot merge. The snarling void left by her father’s absence bore an equal share of the responsibility in the failure of both her marriages.

　　My mother loved her husbands completely, and she hung on to the marriage for as long as she could. What she didn’t do was to speak up and be heard when she needed to, and she didn’t put up healthy boundaries. Exhausted by an authoritarian mother, she wished for a world where caring and love came freely, but she had chosen two men who had to learn to cope with their feelings on their own.

　　盡管我因?yàn)楫?dāng)時(shí)年幼而無法記清雙親共聚的時(shí)刻，我還是聽說他倆曾度過燭光閃閃、樂聲繚繞的浪漫夜晚。

　　不管怎樣，他們都不應(yīng)受到責(zé)備。因?yàn)楫?dāng)兩個(gè)靈魂無法契合時(shí)，剩下的，就只有悲傷。而在母親兩次婚姻都以失敗告終這件事上，其父親這一角色的`缺失所留下的空洞是有一定責(zé)任的。

　　母親全心全意地愛著她的兩個(gè)丈夫，而且盡力維持這兩段婚姻，而她沒有做到的就是在必要時(shí)刻講出她心中所想，得到傾聽以及建立適當(dāng)?shù)慕缦�。母親的專橫使她身心疲憊，深深渴望有一個(gè)關(guān)愛來得自然的世界，但她卻選擇了兩個(gè)還沒學(xué)會(huì)獨(dú)立處理感情的男人。
