　　none/nobody (no, one)/nothing：

　　none既可指人又可指物，意為“沒有任何人或物;一個(gè)人也沒有”，后可跟of短語連用，作主語時(shí)，謂語動(dòng)詞用單數(shù)或復(fù)數(shù)均可。例如：

　　—Have you bought any clothes?你買衣服了?

　　—None.一件也沒買。

　　None of us has/have been to Macao.我們沒有一個(gè)人去過澳門。

　　no one=nobody，只能指人，意為“沒有人”;nothing只能指物，表示“沒有什么(東西)”。它們不可與of短語連用，作主語時(shí)謂語動(dòng)詞只能用單數(shù)。例如：

　　try doing sth.的意思是“(用某種方法)試一試或試試看”，指“試”的方法或方式，看看情況會(huì)怎樣或結(jié)果是否滿意。例如： Try knocking at the back door if nobody answers you at the front door. 如果前門沒人應(yīng)，試著敲敲后門。 He tried sending her flowers，but it didn’t have any effect. 他試著給她送花，但無濟(jì)于事。

　　The students had a class meeting last Friday.

　　The summit meeting of the state heads came to an end two days later.

　　conference指專門性的正式會(huì)議，常用于就某個(gè)重大問題進(jìn)行專門研究或交換意見的討論會(huì)、協(xié)商會(huì)等。如：

　　Many reporters came to attend the press conference.

　　The annual conference of geologists will be held in Chicago this year.

　　gathering一般指非正式的集會(huì)，常用于群眾性的活動(dòng)(像聯(lián)歡會(huì)等)。如：

　　A public gathering was held in Zhongshan Park on May Day.

　　party指社交性或娛樂性的集會(huì)。如：

　　Mary and I were invited to Jane’s birthday party the other day.

　　merely; only; just

　　這三個(gè)詞作副詞表示 “僅、只”可以換用，并且都放在它們所修飾的成分之前，merely的用法較正式。 如：

　　Instead of answering，she merely/only/just smiled.

　　她沒有作答，只是微笑而已。

　　She’s come here just/only/merely to see you.

　　她來這里只是為了看你。

　　作形容詞時(shí), only表示“僅有的”;mere表示“僅僅的、單單的”;just意為“公正的”。如：
